P2P File Sharing

What is file sharing?

Is the accessing or sharing of files by one or more users. File sharing is performed on computer networks as an easy and quick way to transmit data.  File sharing is very common between students and corporations.  Some common file sharing options are: Dropbox, Google Drive, Skydrive, and ShareFile.  When I work with my classmates I usually use Google Drive.
Google Drive share files and folders, you can quickly invite others to view, download, and collaborate on all the files you want no email attachment needed.  It is so much easier to work on a project because students/people can edit the project that they are working on and everyone else can see your edits.  Google Drive is a safe place for all your files and puts them within reach from any smartphone, tablet, or computer.
File sharing is a problem for the music and movie industry.  Now there are sites were you can download free music and movies.  The process works by users connecting to an Internet based peer-to-peer network and making their files available to others connected to that same network.  The user initiates the download and a copy of the song is transferred to their computer. If a user's computer holds songs that others want, the same process is repeated in reverse. This is the file sharing process. The network makes everyone's files available in order to share.

An article, “Should Online Scofflaws Be Denied Web Access?” written by Eric Pfanner explains  “The American entertainment industry says accounts for the loss of $20 billion a year in sales. Several lawmakers vowed to increase scrutiny of international markets where piracy is widespread.”  I think, every year the American entertainment industry is going to loose more money because of file sharing and the Internet make it really easy to have access to these files.

What is P2P File sharing?

“P2P file sharing allows users to access media files such as books, music, movies, and games using a P2P software program that searches for other connected computers on a P2P network to locate the desired content”  P2P programs can be an efficient way to share large files with others, such as personal video recordings or large sets of photos. P2P is also used to facilitate direct communications between computer and device users.
If you aren’t careful, P2P file sharing can subject you to spyware, viruses, Trojan horses and identity theft. t. Some P2P applications can even modify or penetrate your computer’s firewall without detection.
